Recycling is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. With Nooksack Valley Disposal & Recycling, Inc., recycling has never been easier. We'll provide you with recycling bins and pick your recycling up every other week. Your recycling pick-up day will correspond with your garbage pick-up for the utmost convenience.

Prepare your recyclables for pick-up

Some recyclable materials require preparation before they can be picked-up by our service. By following the instructions for each recyclable product below, you are ensuring your recyclable items are processed appropriately. You can also drop by our self-service transfer station at 250 Birch Bay - Lynden Road to dispose of your recycling.

Aluminum and tin cans

•  Rinsed clean

•  Paper labels removed

•  No aerosol or paint cans

Glass bottles and jars

•  All color glass accepted

•  Lids removed

•  Rinsed clean

•  Labels may be left intact

•  No light bulbs, mirrors, dishware or window glass

•  NO BROKEN GLASS for the safety of our drivers

Newspaper with inserts and ads

•  Plastic bags removed

•  Banding straps and rubber bands removed

•  Place flat in bottom of bin

Scrap paper

•  Refers to junk mail, magazines, catalogs, office papers and paper cartons

•  No plastic coated paper, milk cartons or food packaging

•  No food on paper

•  Must be placed inside of a paper grocery bag (no plastic bags)

•  Paper bag must be placed on top of newspaper in bin


•  Bottles only

•  Any color or resin type

•  Rinsed, lid removed and flattened

•  No plastic tubs, film plastics or oil / antifreeze bottles

•  No plastic bags

•  Must be placed in your own reusable container (must not exceed 32-gallons)


•  Flattened and bundled with tape or string

•  Must not exceed 2-ft x 3-ft x 1-ft

•  Large boxes must be cut down to size

•  No waxed cardboard

•  Must be set on ground next to recycle bin


•  Lead / acid batteries only

•  No household batteries

Used motor oil

•  Must be placed in 1-gallon screw-top plastic jug

•  2 gallons limit

•  Must be set on ground next to recycle bin

•  No antifreeze or contaminated oil
